I think Fianna Fail are toast in the next election…although I can’t see any alternative party making a better stab at things! Have you had any response from the TD’s?

I think this is a disgrace and i totally agree with OP. I have already written to three TD’s regarding this. ireland’s governement is a total disgrace and i certainly wnot be helping them to keep in pwer in the next election!

Frank- I most certainly do not have “anti rural dweller bigotry” as I come from a rural location where you could lie in the road for an hour and not get hit by a car! I appreciate your point as regards right wing groups and the need for a referendum on the issue but would suggest that, since clearly this is a topic which moves people to passionate debate, a referendum be announced sooner rather than later.

There is a simple amswer to the question :
“When will Ireland be ready for gay marraige”
Answer: When it is passed by referendum.
The government can not do it alone.
I note the authors anti rural dweller bigotry “sharpening his pitchfork”
Following the vote on the Lisbon Treay a referedum on gay marriage would give the Irish people a chance to show we are a liberal,progressive, open minded,fair minded people.
Not that we are xenophobic,anti immigrant, anti asylum seeker, anti black. We do not want anything to do with extreme right wing groups like UK Independence Party. We do not want Declan Gantley leader of Libertas going to visit House of Commons right wing groups by way of a lap of honour.
Yes a referedum on gay marriage would be a great natonal coming together andhealing opportunity
